Blog Entry #8

  • Are you making connections between course topics and Service Learning?  Definitely! I would say the main subject I've learned from is math. The certain resources she uses to teach the subject, such as prodigy, which is an online math course that basically introduces math as a game but really your benefitting mathematically. As well as just myself learning things that I've forgotten over the years, it's a little embarrassing to admit but I guess it's a little understandable too.
  • Have you been able to articulate your own learning and understanding?  Yes. I really do learn something new every time that I observe and help out in the classroom. It can be learning something new as a teacher, as a student, or as a peer but I walk out every day taking something away from the experience.
  • Is the process of blogging helping you to think and notice things in your Service Learning?  Absolutely! These blog posts are definitely my favorite assignments that we've had. I love thinking back to certain activities and evaluating what I thought was cool or interesting. I also like the idea that I can come back to this blog whenever I want, whether that one 3 months from now or 5 years from now.
  • In what areas do you see growth or learning from the first blog post to the last?  I think the main thing is my attitude towards it. I remember writing my first one and not understanding why it was important for us to do this as part of the course, but now I totally understand why it's so beneficial.
