Blog Entry #4

Use the concept map that you created in this lesson to examine the activities that you see in your service learning placement. Share at least 3 examples of how your cooperating teacher engages the learners in meaningful ways. Provide detail, telling us stories about specific classroom activities that were engaging.
1. Technology: One of the things I've seen my service learning teacher use is kahoot. The time that I saw her using it was when her class was getting ready to take a math test on decimal placement. It had about a total of 25 questions just about a variety of things having to deal with decimals. I think it really helped some of the students better understand how decimals work.
2. Aloud reading: On my service learning teacher's desk, she has a jar of popsicle sticks that have all of the student's names in her class written on them. Although I didn't see her use this method when completing aloud reading she did use it during science. They were talking about the water cycle, and whenever she wanted someone to answer one of the questions she has about it she would pull a name from the jar. This is a fair way to make sure everyone is participating and understanding the material being discussed.
3. Aloud reading: The last thing is "popcorn" reading. When the class was reading Fablehaven out loud in class she would have the students "popcorn" another student to read when they were done reading their section. This is again, another good thing to do in class to make sure everyone is participating and understanding.
